The Gathas

The Songs of Zarathushtra

The Gathas are the seventeen hymns at the heart of the Avesta — composed by Zarathushtra himself in an ancient form of the Avestan language, older than Sanskrit. They are the oldest surviving Indo-Iranian texts and among the most ancient religious compositions in the world, spanning Yasnas 28–34, 43–51, and 53.
